James Worthy, a Lakers legend, attended the inaugural Metta World Classic charity golf tournament on Monday morning. The tournament was held to raise money for mental health awareness and support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI GLAC), the YMCA, and Artest University.
Worthy spoke with Silver Screen Roll prior to the event and expressed his optimism about the Lakers' chances of winning the NBA championship this season. He believes that the team has the talent and experience to make a deep playoff run.
"When you have LeBron, AD, a smart player like Austin Reaves, a D’Lo consistent more than he was last year, then you bring in Reddish and Vanderbilt, the defense and Gabe? Yeah, they got a chance to win," Worthy said. "Based on what I saw last year, ousting Memphis and Golden State and then losing to the best team in basketball, I think they got a really good chance this year."
Worthy acknowledged that the Lakers have some areas where they need to improve, such as consistency in the first and third quarters and limiting second-chance points. However, he is confident that the team can overcome these challenges and make a serious run at the championship.
Only time will tell if the Lakers can live up to Worthy's expectations. However, the team certainly has the talent and experience to make a deep playoff run.
