LaVine's impending comeback: will the Bulls win or lose?

Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine is nearing a comeback. LaVine missed 17 games with inflammation in his right foot, but according to Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, he's on the mend and could be back as early as Friday against the Charlotte Hornets.

Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine is close to making his comeback since Nov. 28, when he was sidelined with right foot inflammation. Coach Billy Donovan expects him to return as soon as Friday against the Charlotte Hornets.

TRADE RUMORS DURING ABSENCE: LaVine's 17-game absence was accompanied by trade rumors that raised questions about his ability to stay in Chicago long-term. However, Donovan remains optimistic about his return: "[Our discussions] have been very, very positive... I think he wants to help the team as much as he can."

LAVINE'S STATS: Through 18 games, LaVine is averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.4 3-pointers on 44.3 percent shooting, his lowest field goal percentage since the 2017-18 season. Even though LaVine is second only to DeMar DeRozan in scoring average (22.2 rpg), his absence hasn't hindered the Bulls.

BULLS PLAY BETTER WITHOUT LAVIN: Surprisingly, the Bulls have played better without LaVine, posting a 10-7 record compared to 5-13 with LaVine. Point guard Kobe White has stepped up, averaging 22.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.1 3-pointers per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field in LaVine's absence.

Uncertain Impact: LaVine's return could both disrupt White's rhythm and revitalize the offense. With White's outburst and LaVine's trade rumors, the Bulls could face a tough decision before the Feb. 8 deadline: should they keep LaVine or embrace White's rise?
